With The Selection Lab you can invite your candidates for an online soft skill assessment. You will be able to measure the competencies, motives, preferred company culture, intelligence of your candidates, and compare these with tons of benchmarks.
Assessment results become available as reports that can be opened from within Ashby. First the candidate obtains its own results whereafter it can decide it with you. In case the result is shared a magic link will take you to the report right from within the candidate's profile in Ashby.
- A (free trial) account at The Selection Lab. You can create one here. This will take you through all the steps that are required to start using your integration.
- An account at Ashby. You can apply for one here.
- Send us your Ashby API Key
- Obtain a The Selection Lab API Key
- Enable the integration
- Start sending assessments!
There are two options:
1) Via the integration modal in the marketplace.
You can find/create an Ashby API Key in the The Selection Lab integration modal in the Ashby marketplace here. This will prompt to enable the integration and then show you multiple fields. If this is the first time you enable this integration, the Ashby API Key field will be empty. The empty field is both a search for existing keys as well as a way to set a name for a new API key.
- Please fill in 'The Selection Lab api key'
- choose to create new API Key.
- The key that is generated will be shown only once so make sure to copy it to a safe place.
- Please send us your Ashby API key. This can be done via integrations@theselectionlab.com, preferably from the e-mail adres that is tight to your The Selection Lab company account.
2) Via the general api keys page
Alternatively Ashby API keys can be created and looked up on the Api Keys Page.
- Open the Admin page > 'Ashby API' (in the menu) > 'API Keys tab'
- Click the 'New' button'
- Create a name ('The Selection Lab api key') and pick The Selection Lab as partner to create a key for.
- The key that is generated will be shown only once, so please copy it to a safe place.
- If you create a key via this route, you will be able to find this key when searching for the name in the Ashby API Key field in the integration modal (as mentioned above).
- Please send us your Ashby API key. This can be done via integrations@theselectionlab.com, preferably from the e-mail adres that is tight to your The Selection Lab company account.
As soon as we obtain your Ashby API key we will get back to you with a The Selection Lab API key that must be entered in Ashby to enable the integration.
After you have sent us your Ashby API Key and we have returned your The Selection Lab API Key you are ready to enable the integration.
This can be done by entering both API keys in the integration modal here.
There are several options to incorporate assessments into your Ashby flow.
1) Send an assessment direct from a candidate's profile.

New Activity > Assessment > The Selection Lab > 'Select an assessment type' >
Start assessment > start
2) Add assessments by default to a stage of an interview plan
Jobs > Dashboard > Interview plan > Edit interview plan > Add Lead/Active stage >
+ activity > Integrations > The Selection Lab > Assessment Type
Now when you move a candidate to the just created stage, an assessment activity will automatically be added. However,
it is still required to start it manually (which will trigger an invite).
When a candidate completes its assessment, it can decide to share its result. If the candidate chooses to share its result, the status becomes 'Shared'. In case a candidate decides to not share its result, the status will become 'Denied'.
Also make sure that you have your notification settings right. That is:
'Notifications' > enable: 'When a candidate finishes an assessment'
When you follow a candidate, you will receive a notification as soon as a candidate has shared its result.
